Mission: Active Future in Kirklees
Mission: Active Future is a unique travelling exhibition, created by the award-winning children's museum EUREKA in partnership with Sport England Yorkshire and The Big Lottery Fund. Mission: Active Future will be brought to the borough by Kirklees Council in June and July to inspire children to become healthier in their everyday lives.
The exhibition is housed in a customised truck and provides a fully interactive hands-on experience with a compelling series of puzzles, quizzes, and physical challenges. The exhibition uses the latest in multi-media as well as state-of-the-art speed bike, stepper, and balance boards, all specially designed to captivate youngsters and test knowledge, speed, balance and agility. The customised truck will be the star attraction of a plethora of sports related activity.
The four week programme starts on 11 June at Leeds Road Playing Fields next to the Sports Barn where schools from the Spen Valley Schools Sports Partnership will visit Mission:Active Future for the week, followed by further weeks at Batley Tennis and Sports Centre (St John Fisher School Sports Partnership), Longley Tennis Club (Newsome School Sports Partnership) before returning to Leeds Road to host the Pennine School Sports Partnership. During that time every school child in Year 4 ages 8-9 will have the opportunity to attend a Mission Active session or other Physical Activity events with over 2000 experiencing the interactive exhibition.
